Derek A. Cummings, PhD
Derek A. Cummings, PhD, is Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Cummings' interests are in bridging theoretical work on infectious disease dynamics, field work on infectious diseases and public health responses to infectious disease outbreaks. Dr. Cummings' work on the VMI includes coordinating data collecton activities and research on dengue vaccination strategies. Dr. Cummings' training is in systems research and he has worked on theoretical simulations of dengue, measles, smallpox and influenza transmission. His field work includes a community-based study of influenza in southern China, a study of dengue among non-human primates in Senegal, and a study of dengue in Thailand.
